The Historic Bed and Breakfast Inn of Crescent City, FL
Few
homes in the United States have the stature to be known by their name, not
address. The Sprague House Bed and Breakfast Inn of Crescent City, Florida is a
magnificent
steamboat gothic Bed
& Breakfast Inn built in 1892 -- a true testament to Victorian architecture and the prestige of that era.
Sprague
House; offering Bed and Breakfast accommodations located in the quaint small town of Crescent City,
Florida, the land time has forgotten and where memories are made. Secluded in the
southern end of Putnam County and nestled between 2 lakes, Lake Crescent and Lake
Stella. The Sprague House has served as a lodging establishment since 1902 when
the wife of Dr. Guilford Sprague, a local physician and the town’s first mayor,
purchased the home for his wife, Katherine. History tells us the home was opened
as a rooming house to the sea captains and sailors from the steam ships that had made the trip via the St. John's River. Guests
have been known to include Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Booker T.
Washington, and William Jennings Bryan.
The Sprague House is located 80
miles south of Jacksonville, 70 miles north east of Orlando and only 50 miles
north of Daytona Beach. Being centrally located, offers an easy drive to many Florida attractions including famous cities, beaches and more. This location offers an easy trip to escape from the busy city life
back to a town where life is much more simple -- offering a restful night's sleep away from the bustling big cities.

As you enter
the Inn you have an almost perceptible feeling of the people and times that have
gone by with a true vintage look and feel you would expect in an old-time traditional Floridian Bed and Breakfast.
The beautiful
two-story Victorian house (circa 1892) built for James Morrow, a wealthy citrus
baron, has been tastefully renovated to capture the spirit of an earlier time and
is one of the most luxurious Bed & Breakfast homes in the South.
A most unique feature of the Bed & Breakfast is that it is furnished with fine
antiques and beaming with the glow of stained glass windows --giving you the feel
of stepping back into time. Whether sitting on the veranda in the summer with
tea or in front of one of the two fireplaces in winter for coffee, you can place
yourself back in time when life was simple.
Guestrooms, which are located
on the second floor, all have their own private bath, and have been
exquisitely decorated with period antiques, precious heirlooms, and stained glass
windows. Our rooms offer luxurious queen-sized beds, televisions, and wifi internet. Bring your favorite book, or browse through the selection of dvd's in
the butler’s pantry, try your hand at the two piano's located in the downstairs common areas or have a wonderful breakfast or lunch in The Waters Edge Pub & Grill located right in the Inn! Be sure to enjoy your evenings with a complimentary cold beer or glass of wine while you take it all in -- compliments of The Sprague House.
Innkeepers, Jeff & Amy Haston, know what urban professionals look for in a retreat
and they have created it in their beautiful B&B. They have cultivated high standards and
Sprague House is the realization of catering to the wants and needs of their guests. Every guest benefits from this melding vision of both old style and new accommodations for the ultimate in atmosphere and comfort.
While in lovely Crescent City, you may enjoy strolls down the
beautiful tree lined streets in the Historic District with several restaurants within walking distance in addition to The Waters Edge Pub & Grill conveniently located right inside the Bed & Breakfast. You may also prefer to cruise around town and
capture the early architecture of some of the older buildings in the immediate area. Don’t forget your fishing pole so you can enjoy beautiful Lake Crescent. Like to fish? Bring your boat with you! The public
boat ramp and fishing dock are just 300 feet away and we offer private parking for both guest vehicles and boat trailers.
We also offer catering services for your weddings, birthdays, showers, business/club meetings, private parties and other important events. Contact us for a consultation to help plan your next social gathering!
Come fall in love with the old world atmosphere, quiet town, and simple luxury this vintage Victorian Bed & Breakfast Inn provides -- we look forward to seeing you here!
